Detailed Itinerary
D1Hutong Culture & Food Walk▾

Morning (9:00 AM — Hotel Pickup): Meet your private English-speaking guide at your hotel lobby. Begin your food adventure at Nanluoguxiang, Beijing's best-preserved hutong area dating back to the Yuan Dynasty (13th century). Your first stop: a family-run jianbing (savory crepe) stall that has been operating for 3 generations.

Mid-Morning (10:30 AM): Wander through the narrow alleys of Yandaixiejie (Pipe Street), stopping at hole-in-the-wall eateries for baozi (steamed buns), tanghulu (candied hawthorn), and freshly grilled lamb skewers. Your guide explains the stories behind each dish and the families who make them.

Lunch (12:30 PM): Enter a 200-year-old courtyard home turned restaurant for a traditional Mongolian hotpot feast. Thinly sliced lamb, seasonal vegetables, and hand-pulled noodles cooked in a copper pot over charcoal. The owner shares stories of how this recipe has been passed down for 5 generations.

Afternoon (2:30 PM): Continue to Gulou (Drum Tower) area for more street food discoveries: jianjiao (pan-fried dumplings), luzhu huoshao (braised pork with wheat cake), and wandouhuang (pea cake). Stop by a traditional tea house for a mid-afternoon pu'er tea break.

Evening (5:00 PM): The grand finale — a self-guided BBQ dinner at a family-operated restaurant where you grill your own meats tableside. Then hop between 3 hidden craft beer bars in the hutongs, each with its own unique atmosphere. Try Beijing-brewed IPAs, wheat beers, and seasonal specials.

7:00 PM: Return to your hotel, full of delicious memories (and food).
