Detailed Itinerary
D1Lunch & Dinner Food Tour▾

Late Morning (11:00 AM — Hotel Pickup): Meet your guide and head straight to the Dongsi Hutong neighborhood, one of Beijing's oldest residential areas. Your first stop: a tiny noodle shop famous for zhajiangmian (Beijing-style noodles with soybean paste) — a dish locals eat weekly.

Lunch (12:30 PM): Sit down for a multi-course lunch at a family-owned restaurant in a converted courtyard home. Enjoy gongbao jiding (Kung Pao chicken), yuxiang rousi (fish-fragrant shredded pork), seasonal vegetables stir-fried with garlic, and steamed rice. Your guide explains the eight great Chinese culinary traditions and how Beijing's imperial history shaped its food culture.

Afternoon (2:00 PM): Walk off lunch through the Dengshikou area, stopping at a bustling wet market where locals buy fresh produce, meats, and spices. See live seafood tanks, mushroom vendors with 20+ varieties, and spice merchants who have been trading for decades. Sample seasonal fruits and freshly roasted nuts from friendly vendors.

Mid-Afternoon (3:30 PM): Coffee or tea break at a trendy hutong café — a perfect example of how old Beijing meets new. Rest your legs before the evening food adventure begins.

Dinner (6:00 PM): The evening feast takes you to a legendary luzhu huoshao (braised offal stew) restaurant that has been operating since the Qing Dynasty. If offal isn't your thing, your guide has alternative stops ready: shuan yangrou (instant-boiled lamb), kaorou (barbecued meat), or vegetarian Buddhist temple cuisine.

7:30 PM: End the evening with a night stroll through Nanluoguxiang, beautifully lit after dark. Grab a final street snack — perhaps tanghulu (candied hawthorn) or jianbing — before your guide escorts you back to your hotel.
